P.S I Love You package anylasis

Mise en Scene:
The trailer starts of with the couple in an apartment together with the women in her bra and the man in a vest top and braces discussing topics arguing then coming together kissing romantically and sexually. They are in New york in a small but luxary looking apartment with a nice bed and furntiure. This then is cut with slides stating the man has passed away of which the lighting changes to a dark setting with only really candles visble for light. She is know wearing black clothes and this all creates a gloomy atmosphere in the apartment as its all messy. Then after the next slide the apartment is all lite up with natural light and she has cleaned up and has fresh makeup and colourful clothes on which is matched in the scene by an irish stereotypical lepricorn in her doorway who is all colourful in typical irsh colours of green and gold. This changes the atmosphere and shwos the New York skyline in its beauty with the busy, fast pace of the city. This then switchs to Ireland with scenes of the green landscape of peace and quite and open water in contrast with the grey and dull setting of compacted New York. The mise en scene seen is Ireland is stereotypical of animals seen, pints of guiness in the background of the pubs and people playing music. The girls are also wearing different clothes taking a different fashion approach to what they wear in New York. In New york they are all matching with a colour scene in smart clothing with highheals well in ireland hats, scarfs and jackets are seen of which though are all different colours to reflect the fun, not caring lifestyle of stereotypical Ireland of which is backed up by the flashback in the trailer of how the couple meet and the clothing she has on then as a girl in Ireland lost. It shows shots of the couple back in the flat together with the irish buy having a rough beard and long hair showing the rugged look with the girl all in makeup and hair nice. The man is wearing his boxers with briefs on and the girl is in her bra shwing the sexy mise en scene used to represent their connection as humans. In all the mise en scene reflects the differences from New York to Ireland and the affects a love one being lost has on someone and how when they move on their is hope presented through the use of mise en scene in this trailer.

Sound:
At the start of the trailer when the couple are together happy, fast pace, guitar based non digetic music can be haerd which portrays a happy tone straight away to the audience. This is brought to a holt when the first slide noting the death of the man of which then slow music can be heard which again in non digetic as a voiceover is heard which too is non digetic. This is a change in tone which inflicts the audience and shocks them. However, after th next slide the music picks up again which starts of digetic in the scene and then goes non digetic as other scenes are shown with the same music on. this flips the atmosphere back to a happy  and joyful tone like at the start of the trailer. A guitar can then be heard relating to the typical music instrument from Ireland which again starts digetic and goes non digetic into other slides with a voiceover the top of this which in non digetic over a couple of different shots. laughing sounds can be heard when on the boat in Ireland from the girls which is short and powerful digetic sound helps the audience see happiness in the sad story line and gain relates back to the differences between New York and Ireland the stereotypical thoughts of Ireland being a happy, soulful place to be of which is portrayed through the digetic laughter sounds in the movie trailer of p.s i love you through sound.

Camera:
At the start a landscape shot is used to show the location of the film of which is New York. It allows an insight for the audience to set the scene for them. An important feature that is evident in most trailers in order to catach the audiences attantion and awareness of their location. Their is a one and two shot used straight away to show the manin characters and them being a couple with a two shot of them coming together to kiss pasionatly. This goes into a close up shot of them kissing show the mans beard and the womans lipstick to plant a divide between the two genders. Their is a switch of camera shot to when they were younger and how they met of which is a close up of their younger faces to show the audience that they are younger and when they first met.
After the news from a slide shot of the mans death their is a over the sholider shot to shwo the mum comforting her daughter in her time of need. This staples the idea of comforting on that character and a motherly act. Then their is a close up an object of which is a recording device which has a tag saying "play me" which signals the main content and idea of the movie and is an important part of the storyline so therefore an important concept to use a close up on. The close up shot is also used to show the woman and how she is moving on from her husbands death with the help of him due to the close up camera shot showing her smiling. This brings relief and happiness to everyone in the movie trailer and to the audience and is a valid and accurate close up shot.
When the girls in the trailer go to Ireland a helicopter shot of the famous I rish landscape is shown with the open water and green valleys.
The two shot of the couple used before is used again but when shes with a new man. This repeat of the same shot shows how she feels the same with this new man as she did with her husband their before portraying to the audience that their is hope of her moving on and finding new love.
Then finally, at the end their is a pan of the woman back in New York running down and around on of the streets reflecting on the fast pace of New York lifestyle and giving the audience a reminder of her life before and a summary of the events leading up to the death of her husband.

Editing:
At the start editing has been used in the process of slow motion to show the passionate kiss at the start between the couples. This shows their real love and capturing the moment shot. This is followed by the man whispering "Im not going anywhere" which is echoed for purpose as though the words are being replayed in the womans and audiences and as this promise is broken due to his death that the audience does not find out till a transaction of slides with a black background and the words stating his death on screen displaying to the audience what has happened. This powerful way to show the audience a message through a simple transaction shot with words on screen of which could be a simple way we could get messgaes across in our trailer to are audiences.
In the trailer they use the shot reverse shot editing techneqie when she answers the door to the lepricorn as this shows both of the characters views and how they feel in that situation. This is also used when the woman meets a new man to show the same concept but portrays to the audience different thoughts used in each scene and different relationship had between each of the characters.

Poster:
The poster contains the two main characters used in the film. They are both beautiful and state both masculinity with a rough look, male braclets and woman hood with lip stick and long hair keeping with stereotypes. The wedding ring is displayed to show the audience how the couple is married. Both of the characters are smiling and look happy and comfortable of which i have to take in to account when producing our posters. The title of the film"P.S I Love You" is written in handwritten style writing to show the concept of handwritten letters which links in with the storyline. The layout of the poster is taken up majoirty of the page with a large image which then has the title below it and the small print of the actors and small print of the film and dates. However, like other posters the main characters and famous characters are in larger print to add highlight to the poster and gain more attention to the poster.

Something Borrowed Promotional Package

Mise en Scene:
At the start of the trailer a geeky girl is portrayed through stereotypical geeky girl with pens, books, glasses and pulled back hair. The is contradicted with a stereotypical good looking man with spikey hair, slim fitting, white teeth with good fashion sense. They are oppsites which in love storys like this are attracted to each other which is seen through the opening scene. Then we are introduced to the hot best mate which again is a stereotypical character who has blonde hair, red lipstick, white teeth and glamours figure. They are all out on a night out and are all dressed up posh drinking beers .
We then see the new couple together the best freind and the good looking guy which they are holding a glass of champagne which is a celebration, posh drink. They are both smartly dressed with necklasses on and watchs portraying a glamours perfect couiple look.
We then see them planning on getting married and the woman in her wedding outfit. She is all dolled up looking glamours.
We then see the scene with the other girl and ther bride to be in the back of a taxi a non romantic place yet, the lighting is all dark and romantic which is full of tension until they kiss. This leads to a scene of them waking up in bed of which we see the guy has a nice posh, expensive car which again sticks to the stereotypical traits of his character. Which is contradicted with the two best freinds in joggers walking through the city which links into them keeping in control of their physical body shwoing they came about their looks which is again stereotypical of their characters.
After this in the trailer we see the couple just before their wedding on a beech all loved up rolling around. They are all in summer clothing with shorts and bikini bottoms up to reflect the season and location they are in. The man is wearing sunglasses and the girl is in the mans top which is always seen in films and helps the couple feel like they are together and portray to the audience how the couple are linked together through this cosy, thoughtful action from the man.

Camera:
In the start of the trailer we see a close up of the pens staright away to portray to the audience the stereotypical characteristics of the first character yhrough the camera angle. We see a two shpot of the future couple with them staring into eachothers eyes which staright away the audience will feel something between the two characters. This is then flipped to a landscape shot of the New York skyline an iconic and famous landscape with does tie in with the genre of love as the camera shot is taken at night with the New York buildings with lights on.
There is then an over the sholider shot used to shwo the best freind as we as the audience are introduced to a new character from the angle of her best freind who knows the best. Then we find out that the man asks her on a date and we have a close up shot of both the other girls reaction and the mans reaction with out seeing the actually girls reaction through a camera shot. This is sodne on purpose to let the audience know that there is still tension between these two as a couple of which is done cleverly by the producer.
We then see a helipcopter shot of New York in the day time contrasting the night time camera shot from earlier on in the trailer.
We then see the newly engaged couple kissing in a simple but effective two shot which just highlights the couple in the shot and the love symbolic trate of a kiss which is seen a lot and i beleive should be present in are trailer to link in with the same genre of romance.
There is then a high angle shot of time square from a craine at night with all the lights to portray the idea of the busy nightlife and scene of New York as the best freind and husband to be explore the night. There is a two shot of the couple in the back of the taxi which switches to a close up when the couple kiss to highlight the crucial tension moment of the trailer which links in with the whole plot of the film. We then see a close up of them in bed which is another significant moment. They show the moring after and them in bed but nothing that happened that night but as the audience this is enough for us to see as we know more happened from their reaction used through a close up camera angle.
There is then another pan of the New York skyline in the day which helps keep the audience in treack of the location and the overwhelming affect it has. Straight after this a two shot of the couple to be is shown bringing the trailer and the world back to reality. We see a close up of the wedding invatation the best freind is recieving of which is a crucial moment to wheather she will go or discard of the invatation which is why a close up is a relevant camera angle choice.

Editing:
In the frist scene we see the editing of shot reverse shot of the connection the couple have right at the strat of the scene which is used well to portray straight away to the audience that something is shared between them. There is a slide transition affect of the New York skyline where the view is split into three parts lenth ways down the shot. They are reveiled one by one which adds the introduction affect of something important whcih behind this affect is the skyline view at night which highlights a romantic feel. There is an editing enhanced affect of the cuterlary dropping which is digetic but enhanced to make it more noticle in a tensed scene to break the tension for the audience with a digetic realstic noise simpley enhanced. The same transaction of the NY skyline was used again but shwo a different image of the NY skyline in the day. This shows the same importance both shots have relating that love happens day and at night time in this trailer. We then see a shot of time square with the image smaller in the middle with the three affect shots moving out to a full screen. This idea of three tranaction affects used in all three shots links in with the love triangle seen int he trailer.
The significant number relates to the amount of people mainly involved in the movie.
At the ned of the trailer we see quick shots of the the rest of movie scenes all which have been edited to move quickly and swiftly to reflect the fast pace of the storyline scene for the rest of the movie.

Sound:
The film typically starts of with fast pace and upbeat music which is non digetic to the trailer. We then hear the digetic sounds of the opening scene and the two main characters. The main characters voice is then switched from digetic to the scene to a voice over which is non digetic to the scene and sees the character introducing herslef and go into a commentary of which their is still upbeat background music reflecting the mood in the trailer. The background, non digetic sounds, are paused well we aknowledge the enhanced sound of the digetic cutlery dropping and clattering which is naturalistic for the enviroment they are in. The music kicks straight back in with another digetic switch to a voice over another slide. We thyen hear celebration and cheering digetic sounds from the scene.
The background music is paused for the dramatic kiss which stays silent well the screen goes black. This is then broken with the streotypical alarmclock sound stating the morning time sound which signals the background music again.

In all the film trailer consists of typical stereotypes and there stereotypical mise en scene all of which is portrayed through clever camera angles to hint to the audience the future couples and to enhance important key moments of the trailer. Really good editing is used to highlight the background of the story and location as well as too enhancing key moments for the audience in the movie trailer.

Film poster:
The poster like typpical films with a strong leading cast, portrays there well known main actors on thr front of their post to help draw in their audience. The poster is layed out with the title centred at the top of the page with the actores/actresses across the top. The title as the NY skyline in the background below which links with the trailer as the NY skyline is showed alot in the movie trailer. The blue title and wrting at the top of the page is seen throughtout the poster in the blue sky backgrouns of the rest of the images which are split into 4 images of the cast. There is also four other boxes which each has different writing fonts and styles in with each has its own different colour background. This helps bring an unsually layout as they are spread across the page but brings orginality to the poster design. The bright colours used help reflect the overall perception of mood are the film making it afeel like a happy, bright film. This is helped by the actors on the front of the poster smiling and the background of the blue sky which all links into happiness.

Love Actually promotional packages

Mise en scene:
In the film all of the couples are from different cultures background and therefore different mise en scene is portrayed for each couple. Some of the couples are dressed smartly in suites and dresses with bottles of wines, nice jewellery and watches. However, some of the couples are dressed more casually and are smoking with sun glasses in a lake.
The mise en scene all changes when the season changes in the trailer to chirstmas. All of the characters from all the different cultures and backgrounds are all in jackets, hats and scarfs. There is snow falling in some scenes bringing all of the different situations and stories together through the season change. Christmas theme is the main theme as well as love throughout the trailer. Christmas is a time of giving and loving one another and is a perfect time to set a love romance. Therefore, this theme is shown through mise en scene by the items and object that represent christmas. Santa Claus hats are used and Mistletoe to show the christmas theme as well as christmas trees and lights around houses. They use an ice ring for the setting of a scene which shows the christmas vibe again.

Editing:
Not much editing is used in the the film trailer as they are trying to create a natural romance. They use the zoom in affect to zoom in on a woman from the couple laughing and joking with another man which is used straight away which gives the audience the idea that the trailer is about romance and happiness. They use shot reverse shot to show conversations happening between the couoples all of which are happy and upbeat conversations or deep talks about love one another.

Sound:
In the trailer non digetic music can be heard straight away of which is upbeat, fast pace music which straight away reflects the mood of the trailer for the audience. There is then a voiceover which is too non digetic and is played over the clips. The voiceover allocates the main storyline building up to the trailer and what the content of the film stating important facts leading up too it. the sound of bells jingerling is the first sound of the season and straight away people get what season its going into and signals the christmas period which is non digetic. A new song jumps straight into which again is upbeat, fast paced and reflects the genral mood of the trailer. Dogectic cheers break through the song and voiceover which again is a typical party sound that is heard during christmas time.

Camera:
At the start of the trailer there is a pan used showing the two couples both smiling and portray a life of happiness through the camera shot. Another couple are again happy and this is shown through another camera angle of two shot which uses both the couples in the shot to shwo how happy they both are with one another. Close up shot is used to show a woman who looks like a spy peering around a corner in spy costumes and a close up portrays to the audience that the women is up to no good.
There is a landscape shot of the city and the christmas tree of which the city is presented in a christmas atmosphere. This landscape shot included all of the cities main features collabrating them into one shot to gain an overall christmas city vibe. After this a long shot of the ice ring from a high angle is shown which again keeps with the christmas romance theme.
Finally, at the end a three shot is used at the back of the cra with a couple and a boy in the middle. This back of the car three shot is a good shot to use to show the situation quickly and affectiviley.

Film poster:
The poster keeps with the film trailer theme of christmas through the idea of wrapping a present up. There is christmas trees and lights in the background of the images to help portray to the audience the theme of love through christmas. The layout of the poster is split into 8 main characters which are used two draw the audience who no each actor from other films as they are all well known which will lead to the success of the film. A red and black colour scheme is kept throughout the writing with the title of the film in the centre at the bottom of the page with the small print belwo in the same colour scheme. The colour red used is the colour of love and passion and is contrasting the4 black and works well as a genral colour scheme which reads well.

 Magazine:
The layout of the magazine is conventional with the idea the masthead is at the top and reads left to right. It goes write across the top of the page of the magazine. The image however, does not go across the the masthead which is a conventional trate of magazines. The image contains all of the main actors which is also used int he poster which must be a important factor used by the film as a promotional factor to help draw their audience through the popular actors and actresses used in the production of the film. The magazibne front cover consists of lots of different style and sizes of fronts yet the magazine keep to the black and white colour scheme seen in the poster and film trauiler with elements of white font as well. This is a conventionjal concept for film magazines and magazines in general which i feel we are forced to do in order to make are magazine conventional. The title of the film is splashed acros the bottom left of the page in large, bold font so everyone knows what film is being advertised in the magazine. They have all the trate magazibne facts across the bottom of the page including when the magazine is published and what the main content of the magazine includes. In this magazine a free copy of the DVD is given away in each copy of which this is stated on the front cover to draw more customers of which the callout used on the magazine front cover consists of the colour scheme layout.

Mise en Scene:
The film trailer portrayed the students as mature, sophisticated people through the suites they were wearing with the long student hair look. There was a change in shift in the mise en scene used in the college to the mise en scene in Las Vegas. When they move to the Vegas location on the mise en scene shifts to the glamous lifestyle. This is scene through smarter suites and hair cuts and styles well they change their personality. They have expensive watchs, sunglasses and jewellery. The teacher is een smoking which is known as an expensive addiction. There is a divide from what the workers working in the casino are wearing to the people in the casino. The workers have rolled up sleeves stressing their work ethic and are seen with a rucksake. Well everyone else in the casino is all dressed up with gadgets like a psp seen in the clip which is not an essential like a watch but defines the dementions of the social class they are apart of in Vegas.

Camera:
Close ups were used alot to aplly emphasis and stress importance on certain moments in the trailer. These moments were the close up of (100%) on the exam paper to show how clever he is and how show how he has been selected to join this elitie group to count cards. Also there was a close up of the main character playing blackjack and his face showing the (Poker face) look which make sthe player so successful and the is shown through the close up camera shot. There was also a close up of the woman apllying lipstick which is a femine trate and shows the woman gaining a new identity of which the lipstick is red, the colour of love and pain reflecting sexuality. Panning camera angle was used twice, once to pan across the campus of the college and secondly over the Vegas strip line to show the difference in scenary and to reflect the situation as well as the population of both locations showing the busy Vegas scene and the busy scene of college on a smaller scale. They have a downwades facing camera from the roof looking down on the main charcater stashing money in the attic which creates the affect of someone looking down on him doing something he shouldnt be. There is also use of the handy cam when they are being chased to show the personal perception of the moment of which is used succesfully to create the chasing scene.

Editing: There is a use of quick transaction from shot to shot which is used in the Vegas half of the trailer and portrays the quick and busy lifestyle of Vegas which is very affective but should be matched with some college scenes by slowing down the tranaction to add more emphasis on the Vegas quick transaction of shots. Zoom is used in the ttrailer to zoom in on people playing poker through a camera spy affect which relates to the 1984 George Orwal book about Big Brother and being watched and the idea of cameras zooming in on poker players. There is also the use of slow motion in the pan across the vegas strip to allow the audience to take in the landscape. Slow motion is also used when the money is falling to show that its unrealistic and a (movie moment) and not an everyday situation. Slow motion is also used when he is moving his poker chips to empahsis the big desicion he has to make portraying the importance of the moment. This slow mo affect is done again but instead of slow it is fast. The main character is seated at the poker table and evryone and thing is moving around him really fast and this shows the busy lifestyle of Vegas and how glued he is to the game and also shows how quick time can pass in Vegas.

Sound:
Their is a soundover used in the trailer to portray his thoughts and could be seen as a voice in his head which could lead to the desicions he makes which is non digetic. Their is some music on in the background to represent university relating to social party life but this music is faster and louder when the scene is located in Las Vegas to present to the audience the fast pace of the party city to reflect the digetic party life and dream world. Reflecting on them "Living the american dream". However, the fast pace and loud music is brought to a sudden holt dramtically when they get caught counting cards in Las Vegas and they risk their whole plan falling apart. It brings the characters and the audience back to reality and away from the dream life with a moment of reality. Their is a really fast pace music played in the background well they are being chased away. This adds more tension and exicitment to the trailer as we dont find out the end result but the music suggests a climax point is going to be reached.
A loud plane digetic sound is heard when they first hit Las Vegas to show straight away the luxary off flying and to let the audience know this through simple digetic sound of the loud plane landing.
When the main character is counting cards which is the dynamic of the film and the key to their success their is a non digetic ticking sound in the background adding tension to the key moments they are counting cards. This is powerfully used to good affect making the audience feel on edge as to if they are going to get caught.

Poster:
The mian concept of the poster links in with the idea of the film content of blackjack and the poster uses the way to win blackjack through the jack and ace cards called blackjack and they use this as the background for the poster. They use two different coloured cards to show both sides of everything which links into the film and shows the boring simple life in contrast to the exciting life in Vegas. The background cards are set out as they would be on a poker table turned over. In the top card black background is shown with lights breaking through which relates to the nightlife of Vegas and what happens to change their lives. 21 goes across as the largest form of text as the film title and different size font yet they keep to the same simple text colour of white that stays powerful. The small font states when the film is being released and the small print. Under the 21 film title "inspired by a true story" which helps boost attraction as a society we thrive on storylines being true and being able to relate to them so that is why this is under the title and in meduim writing. In all a good poster that uses concepts and contents from the film into the poster with an interesting style background and the title of the film is large across the poster with smaller writing important like the true story quote and the director and small print information helping attract more of an audience.

The Social Network Promotional Packs Analysed

Mise en Scene;
All of the mise en scene in the trailer was really aimed at students and teenegers, young people. Most of the clothing was casual clothing with university hoodies and t-shirts worn well showing the university stage but showed the progression to adults through costume with the change to tie with suits as Facebook gains more popularity. Costume is also shown to show class divide between social groups at the university of how the students where there uniform. For example, the geeks where there uniform with their top button done up their shirts tucked in which is stereotypical for that social group. Well the jocks have large ties with there top button undone and shirts out to show them not abbiding by the rules and a more cooler look. As well as this colour places a large part in dividing informal and formal groups. The shots in university are seen with different colour unifroms which show the divide in the different groups socially and formally in university. However, points in the clip the main actor is seen in a dressing gown outside a business building when Facebook plans go through and he is being sewed which breaks this formal dress code he has got making seem less formal and smart.
Alcohol is used alot in the trailer and shows the typical prop for students to have. However, it is shown in many different ways in the trailer. For example, it shows the immature student with them drinking on a field of grass, yet in the club they are brought large cocktails which shows sophistication and maturity. It also shows wealth as in the park they drink cheap alcohol again typical of student lifestlye yet in the club a whole aray of drinks is on their table and avaliable. The cocktail is in a large glass and looks an expensive drink.
Phones and cars are used later on in the film as the main symbols of wealth

Sound:
Peaceful piano and singing is heard in the background and played throughout the trailer. This mellow sad song reflects the events that occur in the movie like freindship and relationship breakdown, being alone and bank rupt. However, the background music contrasts what students would typically and stereotypically listen too. This therefore gives the audience the message that anything can happen.
Talking is used over the top of the background music to entale the busy life of students. A police woman enforcing the law can be heard pressing charges against the main actor portraying the main events. a solister can also be heard giving advice to the actor again and the voice is an old man portrayed by the audience as a wise man casting advice upon the actor which the audience will remember.

Editing:
A transaction is used at the start with a fade to bring the first image of the slideshow at the start of the trailer to show the use and affects of a computer which is relevant to the film through the clash of lifestyles from poor student life to the fantasy vegas lifestyle. They have pauses on photos where the camera pauses on a photo to allow the audience to see every detail of the image and take on board the stereotypes present in the image

Camera:
Simple staright on and two shot cameras used to show simple lifestyle before the glamour side comes in. The cameras then become slightly tweaked in the sense pan is used in the club to show all of the people and the busy lifestyle. The single shot is also used when the main character loses everything to show isolation from the rest of the world. Over the sholider shot is used to show one character looking down on another sharing knowledge.

Magazine:
This doesnt stick to normal magazine conventions as the main image covers all of the page and doesnt go over the top of the masthead. The main guy in the image plays the lead man in the movie which is seen in magazines as the main characters are the main image. The image is made up of lots of dirrent small pictures seen as profile pictures which links to the idea of the film and social networking sites. The magazine front cover sticks to the typical trates of a colour scheme of which is just plain white. They have a range of different fonts and sizes around the paqge which is typical of a magazine front cover with the masthead the largest, then the name of the film and then genral information of the content of the magazine slightly smaller. Finally, really small print in the corner which states the address and general printing information yet still keep with the colour scheme and typically poistioned in the bottom right of the page. All of the text on the front cover of the magazine reads from left to right which again is conventional and is all layed out on the left of the page apart from the small print which is located in the bottom right. This is due to people reading from left to right. The magazine has a quote above its masthead which is seen in all of their magazines "the modern guide to movies" and his a trate to this individual magazine.

Poster:
The black background on the poster helps highlight the smaller images layed out to spell "social" out in smaller images known as profile pictures which relates to the film content of social networking sites. "Social" is the largest word and as it is set out with loads of different smaller images this is the keyword that standsout. Keeping with a white and black colour scheme links into the magazine front cover above as a scheme throughout the film. A basic film poster that gets across its message through simple layout and simple, powerful, contrasting colours. Also they use the directors name to help draw attention as David Fincher is a well known successful director and by using his name they attract peoples attention through this concept. I like the simple colour scheme idea but i feel the simple layout relies to much on the directors name for attention. The word "social" is cleverly brought attention through the smaller images relating to the film and is something i would consider in my layout designs.
